A couple months back, I created an online course that showed, and explained to coaches how to run successful basketball camps. I was gung-ho, as it contained my blueprint.
Unfortunately, when the course was rolled out, it fell short of expectations. To be honest, I didn’t know why. From my vantage point, the course was loaded with content. But it just wasn’t connecting with coaches.
My desire was to create the “ultimate” resource that showed coaches how to run basketball camps for a living. Everything from soup-to-nuts would be discussed. The problem was I didn’t know how to best present this information. I knew if I don’t figure this out, my dream of empowering coaches to run their own basketball camps would be dead!
After completing the initial online course, and it fell flat, I really didn’t know what to do. Working hard has never been an issue with me, but being ineffective is. For me, being ineffective is a huge de-motivator.
Over the course of several months, I kept hearing about a book, entitled “Expert Secrets” by Russell Brunson. Amongst many concepts explained, it referenced something called an “Ask” survey. The purpose of the survey is to ask others what they want. Then turn around, and give it to them. It’s simple, but profound. When I learned of this, the light bulbs lit up!
By implementing an “Ask” survey, I’m now guaranteed the online course or masterclass created will resonate with coaches, and meet their expectations! Why? Because the content is exactly what they’ve asked for!
To get feedback from a vast cross-section of coaches, lots of work would be required. It wasn’t going to be easy. Generally speaking, when there’s nothing in it for someone, and you’re asking for something, engagement may be sparse. To overcome this, I had to be very intentional.
Ultimately, when all the feedback was obtained and processed, the masterclass was completed. It’s a masterpiece, as it contains a plethora of insights based on 12 years of running basketball camps. At the conclusion of the “beta” masterclass, many coaches implemented their own basketball camps, and the reviews were over-the-top!
Through the process of learning about, and implementing the “Ask” survey, I have a deeper understanding of how best to connect with others. This not only has helped with developing the masterclass, it’s helped with other content, as well.
